Secondhand Scores #12

When I was a kid my parents went to garage sales all the time.  I admit I was totally embarrassed by it.  I never really bothered going regularly until after I had my son.  I realized I could get clothes and toys and things for him for pennies on the dollar and that is when my love for secondhand was born.

Garage sales are my favorite but I also go to flea markets, thrift stores and auctions.  I am always on the hunt for furniture to paint, stuff for myself, my house, my kids and unique items that I could put to future use.  I love the thrill of finding something that was once very expensive for as little money as possible.

In this series, I will share my scores to show you how much you could get for your hard earned money.  Some days I hit jackpots, some days I get nothing, but I always have fun.

I haven't had the best luck the past few weekends.  I have been going to garage sales and flea markets, but only picking up a few toys for the kids.

I did find something on craigslist!

An overhead projector!!

I paid $30.  Not sure if that was the best price, but I had to have it.  They even threw in some blank transparencies and markers.

There is a Staples very close to my house and they charge $1.05 to print black ink on transparencies.  I think that will be the best way to go since I don't want to take a chance of messing up my printer with them.

Now that I have it, I have no idea what I want to do.  But give me some time and I will come up with something...

  1. Oh, there's a lot that could be accomplished with that find - for sure!

  2. I'd give $50 for one of those if I could find one!

  3. I remember when these were THE thing to have. Isn't it amazing how quickly technology has changed. You could use it for a party to project a theme on the wall and I bet you could think up all sorts of fun things to do with children. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

  4. You totally have to do a mural on the wall. Maybe in your child's room. Projectors are too much fun!

  5. I remember when overhead projecters were a must in every classroom! Now it's iPads and Smartboards. :)

Visiting today from the Raising Imperfection hop.

  6. Stopping by from DIY Show Off. What an awesome find!! My teachers used to used these all the time and I think some still do:) Amy @ StowandTellU

  7. Ooooooh, I love a great find!

  8. I taught for 22 years, and when I first received an overhead I was deliriously happy! I would check it out during the summer to do projects at home. I designed my own wallpaper in a friend's home. I did art on canvases. Make sure you find a good source for the bulbs - they can get expensive. AND never touch the bulb - some of them are sensitive to the natural oil in our skin. OOOOH! Now I want one!

  9. Ditto on not touching the bulb= no bueno.
I think you paid a fair price. If you get tired of it,you can always resell it for about the same price(as long as the bulb works). They're still sought after by art students for murals.

  10. If you have a table top or something that you want to transfer something to, it is great to have an overhead projector. Fun find!

  11. Wow great find! Those are great for painting things on walls. I've always wanted to find one!

  12. Oh I've been keeping my eye out for a projector for the longest time! I want to make signs!

  13. I am so excited because I know YOU will use the projector to create some amazing pieces...I'm staying tuned!!!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...

  14. Great find! I painted a mural on my kid's bedroom when they were young using one borrowed from our church. Since I've heard you can use them for tracing and teaching children to do so, if you turn off the overhead light and just use the inside one to illuminate the paper!?
