Then I found a free chair driving home one day. Would you have known if it weren't for the sign?
Yikes! Ugly and rickety to go with the scratched up sad desk. But free is free!
Because I use the homemade chalk paint, when I go to HD to get the sample pots for a specific color, I always check for oops paint. I had this turquoise blue color that I paid $.50 for. It was supposed to be a color match, so the color does not have a name, but I would name it AWESOME!
Tell me this didn't come out incredible! This paint was Glidden and I only needed to do ONE coat on both the desk and chair! (I did sand the drawers first to get rid of those ridiculous scratches)
I had to replace the knobs on the desk since it was missing one. I had gotten four of the knobs at a flea market over the summer for $.25 each. I found two more matching ones at True Value for $.99 each.
I covered the seat of the chair with a black bandanna I got from a garage sale and it completely transformed it.
I lightly distressed the desk and was only trying to lightly distress the chair, but the paint came off really easy so it has a more rustic look. I covered everything with the dark wax "glaze" technique and buffed it when it was cured.
In the end this matching desk and chair cost me less than $5! Well, $5 and a million hours of my time because in order to get this done I had to:
-go to HD looking for oops paint A LOT
-go to flea markets/garage sales A LOT
-go to thrift stores A LOT
-scan craigslist for free items A LOT
-check out trash piles on garbage day A LOT
-hoard things to save for future projects A LOT
-AND spend my spare time sanding, painting, distressing, waxing, and buffing furniture
But, you know, like I said LESS THAN $5!!
