Little Accent Tables

[Just a quick reminder that Google Reader will end on July 1.  I would love it for you to continue to follow me.  Please click to follow my blog with Bloglovin]

These little accent tables are so small!  I always wonder how they get used in someone's home.
They are all about 23" tall, but very thin and petite.

I painted the first one with DIY chalk paint.  The first layer was white and the second layer was a black, but once I distressed, the white came through and the black looked like a dark grey.

I painted the next one with DIY chalk paint as well. I used an oops paint that I also used for this desk & chair. I gave it two coats and distressed.
I also added a little PA Dutch stencil to the inside for a cute surprise.

For the last table, I sanded the top and since I liked the natural color of the wood, I just used AS dark wax on it to seal the wood.  I painted the legs with Federal Blue SafePaint (milk paint).
No matter where/how they get used, they are a quick paint job and a quick sell.

  1. Old little half tables were often used in the "vestibule" (today's foyer) of homes. If you have ever been in an old row home, the vestibule was the space between the front door and the second door entrance into the home. Often there would have been a little half table and an umbrella stand or even sometimes a coat rack. My mother has one in her foyer as you come in her front door. (I am hoping to own it one day.)

The one you painted blue looks very much like a tobacco cabinet. My great uncle and my grandfather each had one. Pipes and pipe tobacco were stored in the cabinet.

  3. I've learned the hard way that white underneath a dark color will never work - it ends up being ugly. If an item needs a primer then have the primer tinted to the color(s) you intend to paint or a pretty secondary color you wish to show through when distressed. We all learn the hard way even though we follow all these brilliant bloggers. You do good work.

  7. Around here the half moon tables are called demi-lunes and used in foyers. The one with the door does look like a tobacco cabinet to me, also. I love the black over white distressed until it appears to have aged into gray.

  18. I have two little 3 legged tables like the one you redid. One my father made in high school shop (he would be 87 if her were still alive) and one I picked up at a thrift shop. they have served such useful purposes in small rooms as end tables or bedside tables...I really love mine. and I love the idea of the natural top and painted legs. I think I might follow your lead with my thrift shop table. Thanks for fun look at your make-overs.

  19. I have a little accent table just like the first one you painted. I was so stumped on where to put it/afraid to do anything with it because it's so little!

All three of those tables look great! Thanks for providing me with a little inspiration for my itty bitty table of my own!

  23. I liked the distressed finish painted accent table using the combination of white & black coat and looks very nice but the combination of natural wood top with federal blue painted legs doesn't matches. I would have used other combinations of walnut, white or mahogany instead and would suggest you to try it once. Hope that might look more beautiful as accent table.

  24. Having a few tables like that can really help out with the visual appeal of your home. In my house, we don't have a lot of things and I would really like to spruce it up a bit. I don't have the artistic talent to do what you did with those tables. It would be better if I bought them instead. http://www.haveuseenthisstuff.com/np1-listing-dept-11001
